Pips?
'Oh hello George. Do you want to come in my bath with me?'
No, don't be silly.
'Join me in the bubbles?'
No but you are always in the bath when the most interesting item comes on the News.
'No?'
While you've been soaking they had a report on the Chinese New Year celebrations and the new Chinese Year will be the Year of the Dog. Isn't that terrific? It will be the Year of Me! So I would very much like to go to Chinatown and join in the festivities if you don't mind.
'What are you looking at me like that for George? You do look at me strangely sometimes'.
It wouldn't take us long. We could nip down there in a taxi if you like. I think it is important to be there to show my support. They were saying that there are going to be lots of lanterns shaped like yours truly which will be a tremendous spectacle.
'Do you need to go out?'
It's the most important date in the Chinese year and the sky will be full of firecrackers and I feel sure I will enjoy it.
'Can you wait until I've finished my bath?'
No it's not now Pips. It's next week. Can we do that?
'I'll be out in a minute George'.
I promise to be pleasant to any Pekinese that I come across.
'George do you think I'm attractive? I mean, if you were a man passing me in the street do you think you would ever give me a second glance?'
Yes I would Pips. I really would. I think you're smashing.
'Sometimes I feel……'
What?
'……invisible. Will you cuddle up with me tonight?'
All right, if you want.
'I know I shouldn't complain. I've got you and you're better than a man'.
As long as we can go to Chinatown next week for the New Year celebrations.
'Your love is unconditional'.
